A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Accounting & Information Systems of Dhaka University (DU) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) was signed today, January 30, 2017 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university to foster chartered accountancy profession and promote accounting education in the country. DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin and ICAB President Adeeb Hossain Khan FCA signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institution.
Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Chairman of the Department of Accounting & Information Systems Prof. Md. Abdul Hakim, former Chairman of the same department Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Prof. Dr. Mahfuzul Hoque and Vice-President of ICAB Mahmudul Hasan Khusru FCA were present, among others, on this occasion.
According to the MoU, BBA and MBA students of DU Accounting & Information Systems Department will enjoy exemptions from some papers of chartered accountancy studies for entering into the ICAB professional program. Besides, DU and ICAB will jointly organize workshop and training programs on accounting, finance, business and share knowledge in this regard.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the ICAB authorities for signing the MoU and hoped that it would play an important role to enhance professional skills of DU students. He called upon the chartered accountants to be accountable to the general people and said we have to work together for socio-economic development of the country. He stressed the need for establishment of culture of accountability in the society.
