Dhaka University plays an Important Role in China-Bangladesh Friendship – Chinese vice Premier Liu Yandong

Chinese vice Premier Liu Yandong mentioned that Dhaka University has been playing an important role in establishing and maintaining friendly bi-lateral relationship between China and Bangladesh while she was delivering a lecture for the teachers, students and officials of the university in its Nabab Nowab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban today 25 May, 2015 (Monday). Presided over by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Chinese vice Premier Liu Yandong delivered a special lecture as chief guest. She said that the relationship between China and Bangladesh is thousands years old. Both countries can foster development initiatives through mutual cooperation in the fields of education, culture, health, industry, science, sports, mass media and tourism.

With regard to cordial relationship between Bangladesh and China, she referred the foreign policy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman “Friendship to all, enmity to none”. She hoped that Bangladesh would actively participate in revitalizing Silk Road trades through establishing “One region, one way” with a view to accelerating international and regional development. Chinese vice Premier also mentioned that from now onwards, Chinese government will provide 100 education scholarships to Bangladeshi students. Moreover, 100 Bangladeshi youths will be given opportunity to participate in a peace camp which is scheduled to be held in Confucius headquarters in China this year. She declared to provide computer and other modern equipments for the Chinese Research Centre, Institute of Modern Language of Dhaka University. Later, she handed over the list of the equipments.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique in his inaugural speech extended cordial greetings and warm welcome to the Chinese vice Premier Liu Yandong for her visit to the university. He said that China-Bangladesh friendship is as old as thousands of years. By the long journey of time, both nations have earned trust and faith of each other. Silk Road trades of 2000 years back initiated commercial transactions between the two countries, he added. Vice-Chancellor mentioned that the foundation of China-Bangladesh friendship was made by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through his visit to China before independence. Terming China as a prudent friend of Bangladesh, he hoped that the existing bi-lateral relationship between the countries would be further strengthened. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Nasreen Ahmad gave vote of thanks while Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman acted as master of the ceremony.
